One of them reaches Sunday’s final, and both are American
Eighth seed against 11th seed. Ben Shelton got here by removing Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals, in a super tiebreak that ended later than any match in the tournament’s recorded history. Tiafoe took the scenic route too, climbing out of a two-set hole against Alex Michelsen. Flushing Meadows already knows it will have a home player in Sunday’s final, which is not something this crowd has been able to say very often.
The match closes the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium. First serve is scheduled for 7pm in New York, which lands at midnight in the UK and 1am in mainland Europe, overnight from Friday 11 September into Saturday 12 September. Zverev and Khachanov play the other semi earlier in the day, so there is no knock-on effect here.
