Ten punchouts, and a point made
Emmet Sheehan made a mockery of his demotion. The Dodgers right-hander was back up from the minors on Monday night and struck out 10 Reds in a 6-3 win.
Five and two-thirds innings. Three hits, one walk, one run, and a strikeout total that matched his career high. Sheehan moves to 5-8 on the year.
The context sharpens it. He lost his rotation spot last month when Tarik Skubal slotted in, and he had been waiting on the call back ever since.

Hernandez is hitting .448 over his last eight
Elly De La Cruz got there first. He turned on Sheehan’s fourth pitch of the night and put it over the center field wall, his 24th of the season.
Los Angeles waited until the fifth. Miguel Rojas chopped one toward third, Ke’Bryan Hayes booted the relay, and both Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call came around to score.
Then Hernandez ended it. Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy worked back-to-back walks off Brandon Williamson in the sixth, and Hernandez followed with a three-run shot, his 13th, for a 5-1 lead. Over his last eight games he has 13 hits in 29 at-bats, a .448 average, with 11 RBIs.
Eugenio Suarez cut into the deficit in the seventh with his 22nd homer. Cincinnati’s best look came an inning later against lefty Jack Dreyer, two runners in scoring position, but pinch-hitter Dane Myers could only ground one through for a single run.
Five in a row, and a quiet night for Ohtani
The Dodgers are 87-57 and riding a five-game winning streak. Evan Phillips closed out a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
Shohei Ohtani was back in the lineup as the designated hitter after four games out with soreness in his left knee, right biceps and neck. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Over his last seven games he is 2-for-26, hitting .077, with no RBIs.
Cincinnati drops to 69-75. Chase Burns had three hitless, scoreless innings in him before the hook. The Reds are handling their 23-year-old All-Star carefully down the stretch, having arrived on the back of three straight series wins over playoff contenders.
