A brace that earned nothing
Armand Laurienté finally found the net on Monday night, and he did it twice. It was not enough. Sassuolo lost 4-2 at home to Fiorentina in Serie A.
The 27-year-old Frenchman had managed only one assist all season before this game. He put Sassuolo ahead in the 25th minute by winning a one-on-one with the keeper, then leveled at 2-2 in the 65th with a strike into the top corner, slipping as he shot.

Fiorentina find the late answers
In between, the Viola turned the match around. Mateo Pellegrino equalized just before the break, at 45+2, after a superb orientated touch. Alieu Njie, who had set up that goal, put Fiorentina in front from distance in the 50th minute.
After Laurienté’s equalizer, the visitors regained control through two well-built team moves. Franco Mastantuono finished the first in the 79th minute, and Victor Valdepensa sealed it in stoppage time at 90+2.
Opposite directions in the table
The win lifts Fiorentina, who came in on five league games without a victory (two draws, three defeats) and had only two wins this season. They started the night level on points with Parma, the first team in the relegation zone, and now have a little room.
Sassuolo are heading the other way. They are winless in six (three draws, three defeats) and Fiorentina have caught up with them in the standings. Laurienté has a personal boost. His team has a slump.
