Ligue 2: Nancy hit Red Star for four, fifth win in a row

Four scorers in Saint-Ouen

Nancy are not slowing down. On Monday night, closing out matchday 11 of Ligue 2, they won 4-1 at Red Star, a heavy scoreline against a side still lurking behind the leaders.

Housni, Fernandez, Gélin and El Hadary all scored for the Lorrains, which says plenty about a squad that does not hang on a single finisher. Red Star’s defense looked shaky and never found a way to stop the waves coming at it.

Up to third after five straight wins

It is a fifth consecutive victory for Nancy, who move into third place, two points behind Montpellier and three off leader Saint-Étienne. Not long ago this club was still playing in the National. Now it is in the middle of the promotion race.

The weekend helped. Saint-Étienne were beaten heavily at Guingamp, and Montpellier won big at Annecy, tightening the top of the table.

Reims see off Sochaux

The other game of the night went Reims’ way. They beat Sochaux 2-0 through goals from Soumano and Fofana and take fourth place, right behind Nancy.

Red Star now have to fix their defensive habits quickly. Their next match will show whether this was a one-off.
