“Nothing long term”
Twenty-three Grand Slam singles titles. That number is not going anywhere, and Serena Williams knows it, which is exactly why she wants everyone to calm down about what she is doing on a tennis court these days.
“Nothing long term. It’s more or less about having a lot of fun,” she said Thursday in New York, speaking at the 14th Forbes Power Women’s Summit.
So no, this is not a career restart. The 44-year-old American was blunt about it.

June in London told the story already
She took a wild card into the doubles draw at the HSBC Championships, a WTA 500 event in London, back in June 2026. Nearly four years had passed since her last competitive match.
Doubles. Not singles. One tournament, not a season. The choice of entry said more about her intentions than any press conference could.
Two daughters watching
Moira Forbes, executive vice president at Forbes, asked her what she is chasing now.
“I think women are supposed to wear a lot of hats and not complain. I want to own that message and this moment. And I have two daughters, and I want to show them they can do it too.”
Nine years old and three years old. They will remember their mother walking back out there, whatever the scoreline says.
