Sea Eagles vs Rabbitohs: a huge early battle in the race for the Top 4
After several weeks disrupted by State of Origin, the NRL finally gets back to a full schedule. And to kick off this new round, it is hard to look past this Sea Eagles-Rabbitohs clash.
Both sides find themselves stuck in the same logjam, with several clubs bunched on the same points total. Every win is starting to matter in the fight for the Top 4, as well as in the race to lock down a Top 8 spot.
In short, this already feels like finals footy before the finals.
Manly have been put on notice
The Sea Eagles were riding high before their trip to the Sharks. Even with several State of Origin-related absences, there was real hope they could keep the momentum rolling.
But reality hit them fast.
Down 22-4 at the break, Kieran Foran’s men completely blew the first half. The response came far too late and the 28-22 loss will leave a bitter taste.
The numbers tell the story pretty clearly.
With less possession, a lower completion rate and far less punch through the middle, Manly spent most of the night on the back foot. From there, a comeback was always going to be a mountain to climb.
That said, this defeat does not wipe out what has been built over the last few weeks.
Since Foran took over on an interim basis, the Sea Eagles have looked far more settled. They are playing with more belief, their exits are cleaner and the attack is gradually finding its rhythm again.
At home, this side is still a tough one to crack.
After losing their first three games at Brookvale this season, Manly have turned things around with a string of convincing wins in front of their own fans.
The return to 4 Pines Park could not have come at a better time.
The Rabbitohs have slipped back into bad habits
For the Rabbitohs, injuries are starting to become a real headache again.
The trip to Townsville against the Cowboys brought back memories of some of the tough spells they endured last season. For all their better moments, the Rabbitohs still went down 30-18 in a game where their lack of depth was plain to see.
Without several key figures, South Sydney struggled to keep their execution at the right level for 80 minutes.
A poor completion rate kept them under pressure throughout. Even so, it was not all bad.
In attack, the Rabbitohs are still creating chances. They found space, broke the line more than once and generated good ball in scoring areas.
The real issue is at the other end.
With close to 40 missed tackles in their last outing, the Bunnies handed their opponents far too many chances. Against a Manly side that loves to shift the ball quickly after contact, that kind of soft defence can be costly.
Latrell Mitchell’s long absence is still being felt at key moments too. Cody Walker can turn a game on his own, sure, but the Rabbitohs sometimes lack that constant threat that forces defences to stay honest.
A battle that could be decided at home
This is a clash between two teams with similar ambitions, but they arrive here in slightly different shape.
The Rabbitohs are still dangerous in attack and have enough talent to beat anyone on their day. But their inconsistency remains a concern.
Manly, by contrast, appear to have found more stability over the past few weeks.
The Sea Eagles are at home, they are coming off a more favourable setup after the loss to Cronulla and they have several players in strong form, including Clayton Faulalo and Lehi Hopoate.
Against a Rabbitohs side that have lost three of their last four, the psychological edge looks to be with the hosts.
In a game this important to the shape of the season, the Brookvale crowd could make the difference.
Try it for $0.99.
NRL Prediction Sea Eagles vs Rabbitohs
Sea Eagles to win (Moneyline)
Manly are coming off a frustrating defeat, but the bigger picture still looks strong after several good weeks. At home, the Sea Eagles have more collective certainty than a Rabbitohs side still being dragged down by injuries and defensive issues.
In what should be a tight contest, the hosts look better placed to take the two points.

A quick word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We are sharing an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal, and the whole script changes in an instant.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all, do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, making you angry or putting you under pressure, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist service. That is what it is there for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain English: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But then a team sheet changes (like the Rabbitohs’ one, for example), a player gets hurt, the weather turns ugly and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before betting, simply check that wagering is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it enough: bet in moderation. If you struggle to stay in control, do not wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
mathodds content is for adults only. By using this site, you confirm that you are old enough by law to bet.
