San Diego Padres vs Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Prediction – July 10, 2026

The Padres will look to capitalise on doubts around Shane Bieber File:Major League Baseball logo.svg — Wikipedia

San Diego return home after a frustrating end to the series. Capable of putting up ten runs in a game, the Padres were held to just one in their last outing. That lack of consistency has hung over the team for weeks and goes some way to explaining why their record is still in the red.

Toronto arrive in a very different mood. After two straight games without scoring, the Blue Jays suddenly found their bats again in San Francisco. Two wins, 19 runs scored and only three allowed: the turnaround was sharp. But this series opener could still hand San Diego a few chances, with Shane Bieber yet to fully settle since his return to the mound.

It is hard to know what to expect from the Padres’ offence right now. One night everything clicks and the runs pile up. The next, the plate appearances are brief, the baserunners disappear and the scoreboard barely moves.

This series opener offers a strong chance to bounce back. Shane Bieber is still a big name in any rotation, but his return has been a messy one. With very little mileage in his arm and a 9.00 ERA, the right-hander is offering Toronto no real certainty at the moment.

San Diego will need to make him work. The aim will be to get runners on early and avoid those quick, three-pitch innings that make life easy for a starter.

Toronto have gone from one extreme to the other. After going two games on the bounce without scoring, the Blue Jays responded with 19 runs in two games in San Francisco. That is the sort of burst that can reset an offence in a hurry.

The visitors now have to keep that momentum going against JP Sears. The San Diego lefty has only thrown a limited number of innings this season, but his 4.70 ERA also leaves a few openings. Toronto have more than enough firepower to make his night awkward.

The bigger concern is Shane Bieber. The experience is there, but the return still lacks stability. Against a San Diego side trying to respond in front of their own fans, the early innings could get sticky. Toronto will likely need to do plenty of damage at the plate or risk leaving all the pressure on their starter.

MLB Prediction : San Diego Padres vs Toronto Blue Jays

San Diego Padres: over 3.5 runs

San Diego are far from consistent, but the line still looks appealing given the matchup. The Padres only need four runs and they will be facing a Shane Bieber who is still nowhere near his best.

His 9.00 ERA has to be viewed in the context of his limited workload, of course. Still, it points to real issues since his return. Bieber is still giving up too much hard contact and San Diego should get chances to put him under pressure at home.

Toronto’s bullpen could then be forced into action earlier than planned if Bieber cannot go deep into the game. Even without repeating their ten-run output from a recent night, the Padres have enough to clear this mark. Four runs is the target, and the spot looks good for the home side to get there.

Before anything else, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a read on the current moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal out of nowhere… and the script changes completely.
  • Let us be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, nothing really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, sooner or later, you will.
  • The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Above all, do not touch money you need to live on. And never chase losses; that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your day-to-day life, if it is annoying you or putting you under pressure, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That is what it is there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Essential reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet does not land.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly go out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
