A long-range hit, and everything changes
Ninety-fifth minute. The score was still goalless in Bergamo.
Lazar Samardzic had come off the bench. He let fly from distance, with little obvious conviction. Lukasz Skorupski could only spill it. The ball crossed the line.
The New Balance Arena erupted. Bologna collapsed. Daniele Doveri blew for full time seconds later.

The match Bologna should have won
Because that was the story of the night. Bologna controlled the first half. Marco Carnesecchi kept Atalanta afloat, time and again, with a series of big stops.
Same script after the break. The visitors kept coming. A powerful effort from Nicolò Cambiaghi from the edge of the box rattled the post.
And then nothing. A proper smash-and-grab.
Six points for one side, none for the other
Atalanta now have two wins from two in Serie A. Six points, three goals scored, one conceded. They sit fifth, level on points with the four teams above them and split only by goal difference.
Bologna have nothing. Zero points after two games. Two performances that deserved more, twice left empty-handed.
It is the sort of start to a season that can drain a dressing room long before October.
