Villa Park wanted more. Monday night football served up a cagey scrap, settled by a single decisive move.
In the 60th minute, Aston Villa switched off for a second. Bukayo Saka made them pay with a neat diagonal finish. It was the only goal of the game.

The goal carried real weight. Last season, Saka racked up 20 goals and 14 assists in 47 games across all competitions. At 24, he is the man Arsenal turn to when nobody else can unlock the door.
The Gunners go into this campaign on three fronts, with the open ambition of winning a Champions League they have never lifted. A scrappy 1-0 away win in late August does not win you anything. It just stops you throwing it away early.
