Premier League: Saliba back in full Arsenal training

A short video, a big relief

Arsenal fans got the news they wanted on Tuesday. William Saliba is back in collective training. The club posted a short clip on Instagram showing the centre-back in a rondo and a game of foot-tennis with team-mates, and the reaction said everything about how much he has been missed.

Saliba has been out with a back problem. The France international, 25, with 38 caps, had targeted a return to competition in November, and the first step of that timeline has now been met.

Slavia Prague or Saturday?

Training with the group is not the same as being match-ready. Arsenal travel to Slavia Prague on Wednesday for a Champions League game with a 9pm CET kick-off, and a place in the squad that quickly looks ambitious. Saturday’s home league game is the more realistic target for a first matchday involvement.

France is also in the picture. Zinedine Zidane is preparing friendlies against Italy on 12 November and Turkey on 15 November, but a player only just back in team training looks too far from selection for either.
