Saints rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson sidelined by a hamstring injury

NFL: Saints lose rookie Jordyn Tyson for around two months

Five days of waiting, then the verdict

Jordyn Tyson pulled up in a joint practice with Jacksonville last Thursday. The Saints spent the days since collecting opinions, and the answer landed overnight. Their first-round receiver is expected to miss around two months with a hamstring injury.

Tyson went eighth overall in April, the highest a receiver came off the board, and New Orleans took him to give an unsettled offense a genuine number one option. He now becomes a strong candidate to open the season on injured reserve.

The timeline lands in October

Two months from a mid-August injury points toward Week 6, which for New Orleans means the trip to face the New York Giants. That assumes a clean recovery, and hamstrings do not always cooperate with round numbers.

There is a complication worth noting. Tyson dealt with hamstring trouble during the spring program, which is exactly the pattern that makes a front office nervous. Head coach Kellen Moore said last week that this injury is unrelated to those earlier issues, a distinction that matters for how the medical staff plans the rehab.

The fact that Tyson sought multiple opinions before Monday’s prognosis suggests the Saints wanted certainty rather than optimism. Rushing a rookie receiver back onto a soft-tissue injury is how teams turn two months into a season.

What New Orleans does now

The immediate problem is depth. Tyson was drafted to be the focal point, not a rotational piece, and a receiver room built around him looks different when he is not in it. Free agency in late August is a thin market, though the Saints have time before their opener to work the waiver wire once other clubs cut down their rosters.

For Tyson, the frustrating part is that none of this happened in a game. He was hurt in a practice against another team, a session designed to build sharpness before the season, and it has cost him the first six weeks of his professional career.
