Lions leave the Bulls in pieces at UJ Stadium
Twenty-eight points down at the break. That was the hole the Bulls XV dug for themselves in Johannesburg on Saturday, and they never climbed out. The Lions ran in six tries, won 42-19 and shot to the top of the Currie Cup standings.
Captain Ruan Delport set the tone, powering over from close range after his pack had bullied its way into Bulls territory. Conraad van Vuuren followed from the front row, Morne Venter made it three, and flyhalf Sam Francis kept slotting the extras. It was 21-0, and the visitors had barely touched the ball.

Discipline deserts the Bulls
The Bulls could not stay on the right side of the referee. Lock Sintu Manjezi went to the sin bin, and the Lions cashed in through hooker Mahle Sithole, who grabbed the bonus-point try and a 28-0 half-time lead. Jarod Cairns was yellow-carded for the hosts moments later, but it barely dented the rhythm.
Dylan Sjoblom stretched the lead after the restart before the Bulls finally stirred. Kebotile Maake and Devon Williams crossed to trim the gap to 21 points. Then Delport saw a straight red with just over ten minutes left, and still the Lions scored again, Asad Moos darting over before Riyaad Bam claimed a late consolation.
Top of the log, Kimberley next
The win lifts the Lions to the summit of the Currie Cup Premier Division. The Bulls, still searching for a first victory, stay rooted to the bottom. Round four sends the Lions to Kimberley to face Griquas, while the Bulls host the Pumas at Loftus with plenty to repair.
