MLB: Witt returns with a bang as Royals rout the Twins

Two and a half weeks out, no rust at all

Bobby Witt Jr. didn’t need a warm-up. Back in the lineup after 18 days on the shelf, the Royals shortstop went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and dragged Kansas City to an 8-2 win over Minnesota on Tuesday night. A four-game skid, gone in one evening.

The back stiffness that had sidelined him since July 20 was nowhere to be seen. Witt crossed the plate in the first on a Salvador Perez sacrifice fly, then split the decisive inning open with a two-run double. When your best player looks like that on day one back, the rest of the lineup tends to follow.

Dobnak keeps haunting his old team

Randy Dobnak has a type. The former Twin threw five innings, gave up a single run, and picked up his second win of the year. Both have come against Minnesota. Make of that what you will.

His ERA sits at 1.16 through six outings since his 2026 debut. Jac Caglianone and Kyle Isbel each chipped in two hits. Starling Marte slammed the door with a two-run double in the eighth.

Minnesota can’t stop the bleeding

Joe Ryan wore it. Five runs in five and a third innings, and the supposed ace is now on a three-game losing streak of his own. Royce Lewis collected four hits. Josh Bell went deep. None of it mattered. The Twins have dropped three in a row and the slide keeps going.
