AS Roma vs Cagliari: an unbeaten side at home to a team without a goal in 180 minutes
Roma had conceded three league goals in seven games before Saturday. They conceded three more in Naples in 90 minutes, and still came away with a point: Leonardo Balerdi scored twice in the last 16 minutes, the second on 89, to finish 3-3 after Napoli had led 2-0 and then 3-2.
The draw keeps Gian Piero Gasperini’s side unbeaten in Serie A. They have 18 points from eight games, five wins and three draws, with 19 goals scored and six conceded, and they’re one point behind Inter.
Cagliari arrive at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday 27 October, kick-off 19:45 UK time, after two straight defeats. They lost 4-0 at Monza on 19 October and 2-0 at home to Bologna on Saturday, and they didn’t score in either game.
That run has cooled a promising start. Fabio Pisacane’s side won at Parma, Atalanta and Udinese in the first five weeks, and they now have 13 points, with six league goals in eight games.
Roma’s home record is three wins and a draw, ten goals scored and three conceded. They beat Cagliari 2-0 in Rome in February, when Donyell Malen scored both goals.
A Roma win is priced around 1.36, too short for us. The case we’d make is about Cagliari’s attack, and the best way to back it is a market where Roma’s own goals don’t have to carry the bet.
AS Roma: 19 goals in eight games, and a goalkeeper problem behind them
Roma were two down at the Maradona after 48 minutes, with Anguissa’s overhead kick and a McTominay header. Matías Soulé pulled one back on 69 minutes after a one-two with Malen, Balerdi equalised from a corner five minutes later, and when McTominay restored Napoli’s lead on 83, Balerdi headed in again from a Wesley cross.
The goals keep coming. Malen has six league goals, and Roma scored four against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on 20 October, when they had 26 shots to one. They’ve scored at least twice in seven of their eight league matches, the exception being a 0-0 at Como.
The defence was the best in the league before Saturday, with five clean sheets. Gollini has been in goal because Svilar is out, and the three Napoli goals were the first Roma had conceded away from home in the league all season.
Injuries have hit the midfield. Pellegrini tore a hamstring against Slovan Bratislava and faces two to three months out, and Koné is targeting a return on 7 November. Dybala has been cleared after a minor calf strain and is expected to be in the squad, probably on the bench.
Recovery time is short. Roma played on Saturday evening and kick off again on Tuesday night, three days later. Their last home league game was a 2-0 win over Genoa on 17 October, when Santiago Castro and Lulli, who scored his first senior goal, found the net.

Cagliari: four of six league goals from Daniel Maldini, none in the last two games
Daniel Maldini has scored four of Cagliari’s six league goals, one of them a penalty. He scored at Atalanta, at Udinese and in the 1-1 draw with Juventus on 11 October, and nobody else in the squad has more than one.
The supply has dried up since. At Monza, Cagliari conceded four times without reply, and on Saturday against Bologna they had a single shot on target. Casale headed Bologna in front from a corner on 57 minutes, and Bernardeschi added a penalty after a handball by Rodríguez.
Away from home the numbers are better than the recent form. Cagliari have won three of their four league away games, 1-0 at Parma, 2-1 at Atalanta and 1-0 at Udinese, and lost only at Monza. Those three wins came by a combined margin of three goals.
Pisacane has injuries to work around. Felici is out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury, Idrissi won’t be back until November, Trepy has a muscle problem and Winks went off against Bologna with back pain.
Romano, who scored the winner at Parma on the opening weekend, is on loan from Roma with an obligation to buy. Cagliari also beat Roma 1-0 in Sardinia in December 2025, but they’ve lost their last three league visits to the Olimpico: 4-0 in February 2024, 1-0 in March 2025 and 2-0 in February 2026.
Probable lineup AS Roma: Gollini; Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso; Rensch, De Roon, Cristante, Wesley; Soulé, Pisilli; Malen
Probable lineup Cagliari: Caprile; Ze Pedro, Deiola, Rodriguez, Obert; Adopo, Winks, Romano; Massolin, Maldini; Mendy

Our prediction: Both teams to score – No (1.75)
We’re backing Cagliari to draw a blank. They’ve scored six league goals in eight games, none in the last two, and Maldini is responsible for four of the six. Roma kept five clean sheets in their first seven league matches and have conceded three in four home games.
Saturday’s 3-3 is the obvious objection. Napoli had De Bruyne, McTominay and Højlund in their attack, and Roma were stretched after going two down. Cagliari don’t carry that kind of threat and have managed one shot on target in their last home game.
A Roma win at 1.36 is too short to recommend. Both teams to score No at 1.75 covers a home win to nil and a goalless draw, and we think both outcomes are more likely than a Cagliari goal.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
