One penalty, and that was that
A single kick from the spot decided matchday 6 in Ligue 2. Red Star beat FC Metz 1-0 on Monday night.
It was a meeting between two sides near the top of the table. Metz came in fifth and were looking to climb onto the podium. Red Star, in ninth, had similar ambitions and wanted to get themselves back in the mix.
The first half produced very little. Tight, cagey, both teams cancelling each other out.

Ikanga keeps his nerve
The game opened up after the break. In the 58th minute, Kemo Cisse was pulled down by Florian Miguel on the right side of the Metz box. Penalty.
Jovany Ikanga stepped up and buried it without a flicker of doubt.
Red Star then dug in. No second goal, no equaliser from Metz either. 1-0 until the final whistle.
The table gets shaken up
The win changes the picture at the top. Red Star leapfrog their opponents from Monday night and move up to fourth. Metz drop to sixth.
Three points that carry real weight at this stage of the season, with the leading pack still bunched together after six rounds.
