Three million euros
That is the figure doing the rounds this morning around a Real Madrid deal. Three million. Enough to land a squad player at most La Liga clubs, not a midfielder for the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Foot Mercato, the Madrid club are tracking Sergio Martinez, the 19-year-old midfielder from Racing Santander. Jose Mourinho is still waiting for reinforcements in that area and the window is closing fast. The link needs confirming, but it says plenty about how the club are shopping.
His name meant nothing to most people a week ago. Then came that match.

The goal that kicked it all off
Racing Santander are back in La Liga. In their first game back in the top flight, the Cantabrian side hosted Villarreal. Sergio Martinez scored, firing one in under the bar, and the clip raced across Spanish social media within minutes.
One goal, one comeback appearance, and a 19-year-old is suddenly on Real Madrid’s radar. The leap is harsh, but Madrid have long been happy to spot talent early and buy cheap, then park the player with the reserves at Castilla before making a call.
That appears to be the plan here. Not an instant fix for Mourinho. An investment.
What Racing think
Nothing yet. The Santander club have only just returned after more than a decade away from La Liga, and there is no reason for them to sell their young midfielder at the first knock from the Bernabeu.
Three million for a player who has just scored on his top-flight debut sounds like an opening bid. Watch this space.
