RB Leipzig vs Hamburg SV : no goals in two games for the new boys 
Hamburg still haven’t scored a single goal in the Bundesliga this season. Two games, two defeats, seven goals shipped: HSV are bottom of the pile with the league’s worst goal difference.
RB Leipzig have made a far more mixed start. Three points, four goals scored, three conceded, and an eighth-place spot that tells you very little about their season so far.
The Saxons actually opened up in perfect style. A clean 3-0 win at home to Monchengladbach, with Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa and Rocco Reitz all on the scoresheet.
The following week was a much tougher story. Beaten 3-1 at the Weserstadion by Werder Bremen, Leipzig only got on the board through Baku deep into stoppage time.
HSV, by contrast, never really showed up in either game. Two goals conceded in Dortmund to start, then a brutal 5-0 home loss to Mainz last weekend.
Recent history points the same way. Leipzig have won six of the last eight meetings between the two clubs.
Kick-off is on Sunday 13 September at 15:30, at the Red Bull Arena. The fixture hands a struggling promoted side to a team that badly needs to respond.

The 3-0 hammering of Monchengladbach on matchday one set a clear tone. Leipzig were in control, scored three times and gave nothing away.
The 3-1 defeat in Bremen ripped that up in one evening. Behind after just four minutes through Eren Dinkci, the Saxons chased the game without ever really troubling their opponents.
Leipzig’s only goal came in the 90th minute plus five, from Ridle Baku. It changed nothing on the night, but it does underline the full-back’s attacking influence early in the season.
Baku is, in fact, the only Leipzig player to score in both of their league matches so far. Two of the club’s four goals have come from him, which is a notable imbalance for a side supposed to rely on its forwards.
The injury list is making life harder for the staff going into the weekend. Castello Lukeba, Brajan Gruda, Rocco Reitz, Orjan Nyland, Romulo, Assan Ouedraogo and Christoph Baumgartner are all unavailable.
Losing Reitz hurts in particular after his goal against Gladbach. Leipzig’s midfield will have to shuffle again without him for the third time.
Even so, welcoming the bottom side after a bruising away defeat is about as kind a hand as they could have hoped for. Leipzig have a clear chance to claw their way back up the table.

Hamburg SV : seven conceded, none scored 
HSV’s return to the top flight has turned into a financial horror show. Zero points, zero goals, seven conceded in two matches.
Their opening trip to Dortmund was at least respectable on paper. The 2-0 defeat at Signal Iduna Park, with goals from Serhou Guirassy and Giorgos Konstantelias, was more or less par for the course.
Hosting Mainz was another matter entirely. Five goals conceded at home, including a Phillipp Tietz brace, and the visitors ran riot from start to finish.
Merlin Polzin didn’t bother with excuses after that one, calling it a catastrophic afternoon in public. Inside the club, the message is now about needing a reaction, and fast.
The only bright spot has come in the German Cup, with qualification at Verl and a standout display from a 16-year-old. In the league, though, there has been nothing to hang a hat on.
Two left wingers will miss Sunday: Albert Gronbaek, who has a thigh problem, and Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit, who is nursing an ankle issue. For a side already blunt in attack, that’s a heavy blow.
HSV have, to be fair, put together two wins in their last four away games in all competitions. That’s about the only counterpoint to the league numbers.

Our prediction: RB Leipzig to win with a -1 goal handicap
Hamburg have not scored once in two league games and just conceded five at home to Mainz. A side that can’t score isn’t likely to limit the damage for long at the Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig need a strong answer after the beating they took in Bremen, and the schedule has handed them the ideal opponent. Six Saxon wins in the last eight meetings between these clubs back up the gap in quality.
Leipzig have a long injury list, but that does not change the pecking order against the league’s worst attack and worst defence. The bet is on a Leipzig win by at least two goals.
