Not a second’s hesitation
Seventy-four million euros. That is what AC Milan handed Paris Saint-Germain for Goncalo Ramos, and it makes the Portuguese striker the most expensive signing in Rossoneri history. A few weeks on, he finally sat down with the club’s official channel to explain how the whole thing came together. It took minutes.
“When I heard there was a chance to come here, I didn’t hesitate for a second: it was the right choice,” he said. Then came the part that clearly mattered more to him. “It’s even more special because it was my father’s favourite team.”

The number 9 at Milan has been a poisoned chalice for the better part of a decade. Season after season, whoever wore it sank. Ramos isn’t buying any of it.
“The number 9 curse? I don’t believe in that kind of thing, I only believe in work. Maybe I’m more cursed than the number, we’ll see,” he said with a laugh.
He knows what he’s walking into. “There will definitely be pressure. Without a strong mentality, you can get dragged down very easily, but I’ll work on that so I’m ready for anything.”
His Paris record was solid without ever being spectacular: 45 goals and 10 assists in 131 appearances. Output was never really the problem. Minutes were. Luis Enrique turned him into a luxury bench option and left him there.

He has already scored in pre-season, in a 4-2 win over Manchester United. Small sample, sure. Milan will take it.
He’s not the only ex-Paris man off to a quick start somewhere new. Kang-in Lee scored on his LaLiga debut for Atletico Madrid, a 2-0 win over Malaga. Luis Enrique trimmed hard this summer, and his old backups are breathing again.
Ramos describes himself without any fuss. “I’m a striker who relies on instinct, I try to make the right decisions and read the game well. It’s demanding, but sometimes it’s just a matter of pure instinct: being in the right place at the right time.”
His real Serie A debut comes Sunday 23 August, away at Torino. What he wants from the season is not complicated. Trophies, and goals, in whatever order they arrive.
