Ligue 1: Marseille reject €8m Al-Sadd bid for Nayef Aguerd

Al-Sadd are back, and this time they came in €7m light

Eight million euros. That was Al-Sadd’s number on Monday, according to Foot Mercato, and it landed on Olympique de Marseille’s desk as a straight transfer offer for Morocco international Nayef Aguerd.

Marseille said no.

The file has gone active again over the past few hours, per the same outlet. Nothing so far suggests the Qataris are ready to go higher.

A summer full of twists for the defender

Al-Sadd have been here before. In early August they were close to an agreement with OM, built around a €4m loan fee and a compulsory purchase option set at €11m.

Then Real Sociedad cut the line. The Basque club, where Aguerd has already played, won over both the player and Marseille. The move fell apart at the last minute anyway.

So everyone is back where they started, except that this latest Qatari bid sits €7m below the package the same two clubs had already hammered out weeks ago.

What it means for Marseille

Aguerd is still an OM player. The former Rennes defender has been at the centre of the club’s summer noise for days now, alongside Leonardo Balerdi and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

The clock belongs to Marseille from here. With the window shutting, there is no reason to let an international centre-back go for a discount.

Unless somebody improves the offer seriously, this one is stuck.
