PSG vs Monaco: two points against six, with the Parc des Princes staring at an oddity 
Paris Saint-Germain go into round three with two points on the board, while Monaco have six. The reigning champions have not started a league season with three games without a win since the start of the decade.
Back home for PSG at last. After the enforced stay at Roazhon Park because the pitch was not up to scratch, Paris finally step out at the Parc des Princes on Friday at 21:05.
Jerome Brisard is the man in charge. The job is simple enough: get the home season moving at last in front of the capital’s fans against Monaco.
Paris’ two draws have followed the same script: 2-0 down at Rennes and then at Lille, and twice they came back. A Ferran Torres brace in Brittany, then Vitinha in the 91st minute and Marquinhos in the 95th up north.
Monaco arrive on the back of four wins from four competitive matches under Filipe Luis. The Monegasques brushed aside Gornik Zabrze in the Conference League play-off (3-2 and 4-1), won at Le Havre thanks to Eric Dier (0-1), and beat OM at the Louis II (2-0).
The recent balance of power leans toward the Rock. Monaco completed the league double over Paris last season, winning 1-0 at the Louis II in November and 3-1 at the Parc des Princes in March.
A Monaco win on Friday would kill off a 22-year stat. ASM have not beaten Paris twice in a row in the league since 2003-2004.
The two clubs have still met four times last season, European football included. In the Champions League play-off, Paris turned around a near-disaster in the Principality, coming from 2-0 down inside 18 minutes to win 3-2, before sealing qualification in the return leg with a 2-2 draw.
That makes 119 meetings in total, with Monaco ahead: 50 wins to Paris’ 39, plus 30 draws. A long-standing ASM edge, though one that belongs very much to the past now.
Since Monaco returned to Ligue 1 in 2013, the picture has flipped completely. In 36 clashes, PSG have won 19, with Monaco taking just eight and the other nine ending level. In short, Paris have put things back where they wanted them.
Paris Saint-Germain: dominating without scoring before the 70th minute 
Paris are averaging 71.1% possession in Ligue 1 this season, the best figure in the division. But that territorial dominance has not yet produced a goal before the 70th minute in either of the first two rounds.
That matters when trying to read this match. Paris remain unbeaten in 2026 in the league when they score first in the opening half, but they have not managed it yet this season.
Their response rate, though, remains intact. At Lille, Paris became only the second Ligue 1 side in 60 seasons to avoid defeat after trailing by two goals going into stoppage time, the other being Nice against Lyon in 2011.
Paris’ August came down to two finals. They kept the European Super Cup against Aston Villa (2-1), but lost the Champions Trophy to Lens (0-1).
The summer window has shaken up the attack. Bradley Barcola left for Liverpool in a deal worth more than 140 million euros, the biggest sale in the club’s history, while Goncalo Ramos joined AC Milan and Lee Kang-in moved to Atletico Madrid.
The arrivals do not fully make up for those exits. Ferran Torres, signed from Barcelona and a world champion this summer, has already made an impact with his brace at Rennes, while Mika Godts, brought in from Ajax, is still looking for his feet.
In the squad, Nuno Mendes serves the third and final match of the suspension he picked up for an elbow on Michal Skoras in the Champions Trophy. Ousmane Dembele, rested at Lille, was back training with the group on Monday.
One more name is drawing plenty of attention before this one. Maghnes Akliouche, signed from Monaco for nearly 50 million euros in the 2026 summer window, will face his former club for the first time.

AS Monaco: the only Ligue 1 defence still untouched 
Monaco have not conceded a goal in Ligue 1 after two rounds. Lukasz Hradecky shares that oddity with Kevin Trapp, the only keepers in the league yet to be beaten.
The run has an immediate impact on how this match reads. A third clean sheet on Friday would match Monaco’s longest league shutout streak of the calendar year.
The attacking output is trending the same way. ASM have scored 10 goals in their last four matches in all competitions, including the 4-1 second-leg win over Gornik Zabrze in the play-off.
Paris Brunner is driving the surge. The 20-year-old German striker, a U17 World Cup winner in 2023, scored five goals in pre-season and four in competitive games, including a brace against OM.
His coach arrives with a recent record that helps explain the momentum. Filipe Luis won five trophies in two seasons at Flamengo, including the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian league in 2025, and he has made the strongest start of any Monaco coach in decades.
Even so, the squad was heavily rebuilt this summer. Alongside Akliouche’s move to Paris, Aladji Bamba joined Newcastle, Caio Henrique went to Ajax and Kassoum Ouattara left for Besiktas, while the partnership with Paul Pogba ended on August 19.
The numbers still favour the visitors. Monaco are the only team on six points after two rounds, a position last seen only once in 18 Ligue 1 seasons, with Grenoble in 2008-2009.
The treatment room is still busy on the Monaco side. Takumi Minamino and Mohammed Salisu returned to full training in mid-August after ACL injuries, while Ansu Fati, suffering with a calf problem, still has no return date.

Paris have scored twice in each of their first two league games and conceded twice as well. None of their Ligue 1 matches this season has ended without both sides finding the net.
Monaco, meanwhile, come in with 10 goals from four competitive games and Brunner’s brace against OM. A Paris back line missing Nuno Mendes and caught out twice early in matches looks like fertile ground for the visitors.
The recent head-to-head record points the same way. Three of last season’s four meetings saw both teams score, in games that ended 3-1, 3-2 and 2-2.
The call is made: both teams to score. The 1.39 price on a Paris win offers no value against Monaco, and the shape of both attacks makes this market far more appealing.
