Paris step up talks over their number 7
Paris Saint-Germain have picked their next job. According to L’Equipe, the club’s hierarchy want to tie Khvicha Kvaratskhelia down to a new deal. The Georgian is already under contract until 2029, so there is no real deadline on paper.
The timing explains it all. Paris want the deal wrapped up before the Ballon d’Or results are announced. Kvaratskhelia is among the contenders. Winning would send his price soaring in any contract talks. The paper says an agreement is now “very likely” at this stage.
This comes after two other pieces of business already sorted this summer: Ousmane Dembele and Luis Enrique.

A 70 million euro outlay that has already paid off
Paris paid 70 M€ in January 2025 to prise him away from Napoli in the middle of winter. At the time, plenty of eyebrows were raised. Not anymore.
Kvaratskhelia has 28 goals and 19 assists in 84 matches in the Paris shirt. Luis Enrique made him an instant starter, then a key figure.
Last season changed everything. The winger drove PSG to a second straight Champions League title with 10 goals and 7 assists in 16 European games. That is star-level output in the competition that has shaped the whole Paris project for the past decade.
The Georgian also has 50 caps and 23 goals for his country. He is only 25.
A race against the Ballon d’Or
The logic is straightforward. A Ballon d’Or winner does not sign the same contract as a runner-up. Salary, signing bonus, length, release clause: all of it gets torn up and renegotiated overnight.
Paris have already lived through that sort of scramble with Dembele. This time, the club would rather get in first and secure their left winger before the verdict lands.
That said, the player has no reason to rush. Three years left on his deal, a starting role, two Champions League winners’ medals in the bag. The leverage is not necessarily with the board.
