Tennis: 18-year-old Pohankova knocks Osaka out in Tokyo

From No. 659 to the quarter-finals

A year ago Mia Pohankova was ranked No. 659. Today the 18-year-old Slovak beat seventh seed and former champion Naomi Osaka 6-3, 7-5 in 95 minutes to reach the quarter-finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

Osaka had survived her opener earlier in the week, but she could not find a way past the teenager in straight sets.
