Cycling: Tom Pidcock takes Larciano win

Tuscany suits him just fine

Larciano, Sunday afternoon. Tom Pidcock crosses the line first.

The Brit won the GP Industria & Artigianato. Christian Scaroni was second, Anthon Charmig third. One-day racing in Tuscany, rough roads, and a finish that punishes anything less than sharp.

Pidcock rides for Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling. He wins. Again.

Timing that matters

The calendar is no accident. The Worlds are coming up in Montreal. Team announcements are dropping one by one as federations roll out their lists. Colombia, for example, has named Egan Bernal, Santiago Buitrago and Nairo Quintana.

Winning in early September in Italy, on a nervy course like this, sends a message. Pidcock has never needed many words to do that.

Behind the podium, Roger Adrià finished fourth for Movistar, Alessandro Fancellu fifth and Antonio Tiberi sixth for Bahrain Victorious. A strong field for a one-day race of this level, with the Canadian showdown only weeks away.

A Sunday packed with racing

September 6 was a busy one. Van Aert in Cordoba on the Vuelta. Politt and Wellens on the Tour of Britain. Mathias Vacek on the ZLM Tour. Baptiste Vadic on the Tour of Istanbul. And Pidcock in Tuscany.

Five races, five different stories. Late-summer cycling looks like this: scattered, packed, and impossible to take in without missing a fair chunk of it.

Pidcock, though, has put his stamp on this one. Now the question is what he can do in Montreal.
