The win over the New York Red Bulls finally gave Philadelphia a bit of breathing room. After several grim weeks, the Union have at least put a smile back on the faces of their home crowd, but they are still bottom of the Eastern Conference and every point now matters in the fight to stay afloat.
Seattle arrive in Pennsylvania from almost the opposite direction. The Sounders are still sitting near the top of the Western Conference, but a run of four straight defeats has badly slowed their momentum. They need to halt the slide quickly.

Ryan Richter will be hoping the Red Bulls result is more than a one-off spark. His side showed more bite, played higher up the pitch and created far more chances than they had in the previous few weeks. It looked much closer to the team the fans were expecting from the start.
Milan Iloski continues to drive the attack. With Bruno Damiani alongside him, the Union have a front pair capable of causing problems for any defence when transitions are used properly. The real test, though, is whether they can keep that balance for 90 minutes.
Because it is at the back where Philadelphia keep dropping points. Thirty-one goals conceded in 16 matches is far too many if they want to climb the table any time soon. Every individual mistake is being punished straight away.
Seattle want to stop the bleeding 
Four defeats in a row do not tell the full story of the Sounders. Brian Schmetzer has had to deal with a long injury list, and his back line has been changing almost every week. That kind of churn shows up in the results sooner or later.
Even so, Seattle still have players who can turn a match. Albert Rusnak remains the brains of the side, while Paul Rothrock keeps providing threat despite the club’s slump. The experience in the squad is still a real asset in a trip like this.
The Sounders also know they are facing a team that is still fragile mentally. If they can set the tempo early, they have more than enough about them to leave with a positive result.
