Pegula lives up to her seeding in Washington
Jessica Pegula won the Washington tournament on Monday. The American beat Alexandra Eala in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The final had been halted the day before by storms. It resumed on Monday. Pegula never looked rattled.
It is her 12th WTA title. And her second in Washington, after 2019. The top seed justified her ranking from first point to last. She served well and struck cleanly whenever the rally opened up.

Eala reaches her first WTA 500 final
Alexandra Eala was contesting the first final of her career at this level. The Filipina made the week her own. She had also beaten Naomi Osaka on the way through. Against Pegula, though, she ran out of answers.
Rain had stopped the match on Sunday, midway through the second set. The restart did her no favours. Pegula picked up exactly where she had left off. Eala leaves the US capital with regrets, but also plenty to build on.
A title that matters before the US Open
Pegula keeps stacking up finals in 2026. The hard-court summer swing rolls on. It leads straight to the US Open, where the American will be hoping to make another statement.
