NBA: Omier backs out of Wolves deal, heads to Cleveland

A deal that did not hold

Norchad Omier is no longer headed to Minnesota. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the forward agreed to a two-way contract with the Timberwolves, then changed his mind and now plans to sign a two-way deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The reversal leaves Minnesota with a hole it had just filled. The Timberwolves waived Enrique Freeman to make room for Omier, and with that move undone on Omier’s side, they now have an open two-way spot.

What it means for both rosters

For Cleveland, a two-way slot is a low-cost way to add depth early in the season. For Minnesota, the spot will have to be refilled, and the team that cut Freeman for Omier is back where it started. Neither club has detailed the change publicly, so the reporting rests on Scotto’s sources for now.
