A tiebreak that slipped away
Alexander Zverev walked onto the Central Court in Paris for his first match as the official world No. 1. It ended in a second-round loss. Lorenzo Musetti beat him 7-6(5), 6-2 at the Rolex Paris Masters this afternoon.
The first set took 1 hour and 4 minutes and turned on one run of points. Zverev led the tiebreak 5-2. Musetti then won five in a row to take it. Nothing in the second set suggested a comeback. Musetti made the first break at 2-1 after Zverev missed a volley he would normally put away, and he closed the match with a love game and an ace.

Musetti back in the mix
Musetti arrives in Paris ranked 24th, well below the No. 5 spot he once held. Beating the top seed in his opening match gives him a different tournament from the one he walked in expecting.
For Zverev, the timing stings. The ranking only changed hands on Monday, and the first result under the new number was an exit before the third round.
Musetti has little time to enjoy it. He plays Luca Van Assche for a place in the quarterfinals. The Frenchman, ranked 47th, knocked out 15th seed Learner Tien earlier on the same afternoon and will have the home crowd behind him.
