Olympiacos vs Sparta Prague: five wins in a row and four clean sheets for Alguacil’s side
Olympiacos have won their last five matches and kept a clean sheet in four of them. The latest was a 2-0 win at Panetolikos on Sunday, with Roca scoring after 17 minutes and Chiquinho adding the second on 73.
That run includes the 1-0 win in Marseille last Thursday and the 1-0 against Panathinaikos in the derby on 11 October. Imanol Alguacil only took over from Jose Luis Mendilibar on 10 September, and the side has conceded once in its last five games.
Sparta Prague come to the Karaiskakis on Thursday, with kick-off at 8pm UK time. Brian Priske’s side drew 0-0 at Banik Ostrava on Sunday and 1-1 at home to Lillestrom in the Europa League three days earlier.
Both clubs are in the middle of the European table. Olympiacos are tenth with six points from two games, Sparta 11th with four after their 4-1 win in Armenia on the opening night.
The two clubs have no previous competitive meeting on record.
The home side are 1.53 to win and Sparta 5.50, with the draw at 4.00. I’m not interested in the match result at that price, so the goals market is where I’d look.
Olympiacos: one goal conceded in five games since the OFI defeat
The last team to score against Olympiacos was Jagiellonia, in the 2-1 win in Piraeus on 16 September. Before that, OFI won 1-0 at the Karaiskakis four days earlier, which is the club’s most recent defeat.
Since then it’s been Levadiakos 0-1, Panathinaikos 1-0, Marseille 0-1 and Panetolikos 0-2. Olympiacos are second in the Greek Super League with 16 points from seven games, two behind Panathinaikos.
Olympiacos don’t score many: three goals in two European games, one goal in each of their last three wins before Sunday. Yaremchuk, Hezze and Gonzalez have one European goal each, and Jota Silva has two in the league.
El Kaabi is out with a broken leg suffered on 5 September, and Yazici has a knee injury. Fortounis started at Panetolikos but came off after 39 minutes, and no reason was given.
Alguacil rotates between competitions. The XI on Sunday was Ortega; Pedersen, Retsos, Pirola, Tiknizyan; Puerta, Freuler; Roca, Sa, Fortounis, Mouandilmadji. In Marseille it was Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Bruno; Puerta, Hezze; Martins, Chiquinho, Jota Silva; Yaremchuk.
Remo Freuler, who joined on a free transfer from Bologna in August, started alongside Puerta on Sunday.
Ortega, Retsos, Pirola and Puerta started both games. That’s the spine of a defence that has let in one goal in five.

Sparta Prague: two draws in a week and Slavia eight points clear
Sparta are fifth in the Czech First League with 19 points from 11 games, eight behind leaders Slavia. They’ve won one of their last three, beating Pardubice 2-0 on 11 October.
Mercado leads their league scoring with five and Alcocer has four. In Europe, Guddal has two goals, and Alcocer, Mercado and Vydra have one each.
The XI at Banik was Surovcik; Hoever, Guddal, Zeleny, Suchomel; Sochurek, Macek; Mercado, Vydra, Alcocer; Brunes. Zeleny and Alcocer, both listed as doubts by some outlets, started there.
Mbe Soh is a doubt, while Rynes, Uchenna, Penxa and Kofod Andersen are out. Kofod Andersen has a cruciate ligament injury.
Sparta lost 3-0 at home to Slavia on 30 August, were beaten 2-1 at Hradec a week later and went out of Champions League qualifying to Lyon, 4-2 on aggregate.
In their two European games so far, Sparta have had 56% of the ball and 16 shots on target, against Olympiacos’ 51% and ten. They’re scoring in Europe, with five goals in two matches, but the 1-1 with Lillestrom was a home game they were expected to win. They play Slovacko on Sunday and a cup tie on 28 October, so Priske may rotate.
Probable lineup Olympiacos: Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Bruno; Puerta, Hezze; Martins, Chiquinho, Jota Silva; Yaremchuk
Probable lineup Sparta Prague: Surovcik; Hoever, Guddal, Zeleny, Suchomel; Sochurek, Macek; Mercado, Vydra, Alcocer; Brunes
Free Europa League Prediction: Olympiacos vs Sparta Prague
Our prediction: Both teams to score: No
I’d back at least one side to finish without a goal, at 1.91. Olympiacos have kept four clean sheets in five, and their wins have come by narrow margins, 1-0 three times out of five.
Sparta’s five European goals are the argument against. Four of them came in Yerevan against Ararat-Armenia, though, and they’ve failed to score in their latest league game. Olympiacos at home with Retsos and Pirola in front of Ortega is a much harder test.
The over 2.5 goals line sits at 1.80, which says the market expects a fairly open game, and I disagree. Olympiacos have won 1-0 in Marseille and against Panathinaikos, and I’d expect them to keep Mercado, Vydra and Alcocer quiet for long spells. Both teams to score: No at 1.91 is the pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling
We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
