A last-gasp kick
Ole Miss beat Louisville 41-38 overnight in Nashville. Lucas Carneiro drilled a 48-yard field goal as the clock hit zero. The Rebels move to 1-0, the Cardinals to 0-1.
The kicker had already missed from 46 yards earlier in the game. He also pushed one wide from 57 yards with six minutes left. When it came down to the final snap, he held firm.
Ranked ninth in the country, the Rebels needed the full 60 minutes to see off a 24th-ranked opponent.

A second half gone completely off the rails
The two teams managed just 16 points and 231 yards before the break. After it, they piled up 63 points and 726 yards. Ole Miss finished with 488 total yards of offense, Louisville with 469.
Trinidad Chambliss threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, completing 21 of 36 passes. He also ran in from 5 yards out for the 38-24 lead with 6:43 left. That possession only existed because of a penalty on the kicker, called after Carneiro’s missed attempt and keeping the Rebels offense on the field.
Deuce Alexander caught five passes for 159 yards. Two of his grabs went for 62-yard touchdowns, both in the second half.
Kienholz impresses, Lacy a worry
Lincoln Kienholz made his first start in nearly four years. The Ohio State transfer completed 18 of 29 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns. No Louisville quarterback had ever thrown for 300 yards in his debut for the Cardinals.
He also ran for 69 yards on 14 carries, the best total on a team that piled up 162 on the ground. His 7-yard scramble pulled Louisville level at 38-38 with 1:28 left. Tre Richardson had already tied it at 24-24 inside the final minute of the third quarter on a 62-yard catch-and-run.
The first half had been a different story: 7 completions on 14 attempts for 46 yards, plus two delay-of-game penalties in the red zone on the opening drive, which left Louisville settling for a field goal.
Ole Miss lost Kewan Lacy midway through the third quarter. The running back, listed among the Heisman hopefuls, is dealing with a leg contusion, according to multiple reports. He had already hurt his shoulder before halftime. He finished with 61 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. His 1-yard plunge had been the only touchdown of the first half, set up by a bad Louisville punt snap.
