NHL: Kraken lose Ryan Lindgren for 4 to 6 weeks

A four-minute night that costs a month

Ryan Lindgren barely got a shift in before his season took a turn. The Kraken defenseman has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss four to six weeks, the team announced Thursday.

It happened Tuesday in Vegas. Lindgren was hit from behind early in the first period and played just under four minutes before leaving a game Seattle went on to lose 6-2 to the Golden Knights.

What it means for Seattle

Lindgren, 28, is in the second year of a four-year contract. He had no points and a plus-3 rating through four games, numbers that fit a defender brought in to eat tough minutes rather than chase offense.

The timing stings. The Kraken are 2-2-0 and open a five-game road trip Friday against the Detroit Red Wings, so the blue line will have to find its shape away from home and without one of its steadier pieces. A return somewhere in mid-November is the realistic window if the recovery goes to plan.
