Los Angeles needs a home win
The Kings are 0-3-0 at Crypto Arena this season, and Thursday night brings the first of seven straight home games, against the Ottawa Senators. The homestand ties the longest stretch of the Kings’ schedule.
Los Angeles went 3-2 on its eastern trip, beating Washington 5-2, the New York Islanders 3-2 in overtime and the Rangers 6-3 before losses at New Jersey (3-1) and Chicago. In Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to the Blackhawks, the Kings led early before Wyatt Kaiser scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period off a turnover.
That trip followed a 0-4-2 opening. The Kings sit seventh in the eight-team Pacific with eight points, one clear of Vancouver, which has the fewest in the league. Coach Peter Laviolette said his team had the chance to climb the standings and did not take it. Quinton Byfield called a 3-2 trip a small positive, though 4-1 would have felt better given the hole they dug.

Ottawa is short of finishers and maybe a forward
The Senators are on the second game of a five-game road trip after a 4-1 loss to reigning Western Conference champion Vegas on Tuesday. They outshot the Golden Knights 11-4 in the first period and allowed only six shots over the first 30 minutes. The score stayed 0-0 until Braeden Bowman scored on a power play in the last 11 seconds of the second period.
Shane Pinto tied it on a power-play breakaway early in the third. Raphael Lavoie then scored his first NHL goal, banking in a rebound, and William Karlsson and Jack Eichel added empty-netters. Coach Travis Green liked the chances but not the finishing, and said the bounces went the other way.
The bigger concern is Warren Foegele. He left midway through the third after a knee-to-knee hit from Jeremy Lauzon along the boards and needed help off the ice. Green said he did not return, which he called “never a good sign.”
