A boot nobody in Buffalo wanted to see
Keon Coleman sat out Tuesday’s open practice at Highmark Stadium and turned up wearing a walking boot, according to multiple reporters on the scene.
The receiver played in Buffalo’s preseason opener and caught three passes on four targets for 17 yards. He took a knock during that game. Head coach Joe Brady said afterwards he expected Coleman to be fine, which reads differently now that the player is in protective footwear a few days later.

He was not the only one watching
Khalil Shakir also sat out the session, leaving Buffalo down two of its receivers on the same morning. DJ Moore did practice. Defensive tackle Ed Oliver missed the workout as well.
The Bills have not put a timeline on any of it, and an open practice in the third week of August rarely produces one. Coaches hold players back for reasons that range from genuine concern to simple caution, and a walking boot sits somewhere between the two.
What comes next
Buffalo hosts Cleveland on Saturday afternoon for the second week of preseason play. Whether Coleman suits up will tell you more than anything said at a podium this week. Week 1 of the regular season is three weeks out, which leaves room to be careful without leaving much room to be wrong.
