NFL: Bills bring Otis Reese IV back, waive Jackson Acker

Buffalo reverses course on a linebacker

The Bills made two roster moves this morning. They signed linebacker Otis Reese IV and waived fullback Jackson Acker.

Reese, 28, was released by Buffalo last week. He is back on the roster seven days later, which usually means a team looked at its special teams reps and did not like what it saw.

What Buffalo is actually getting

Reese has played 20 NFL games with five starts. Nearly all of that work came on special teams, and all of his regular-season snaps came with the Titans. He has also spent time on the Patriots roster without cracking a game day.

Acker goes the other way. The undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin signed with Buffalo in May and lasted the summer without securing a spot. Fullback is a position that survives on one roster slot per team, and he lost his.

Neither move shifts the Bills’ depth chart in any meaningful way. Both matter to the players involved, and both signal that Buffalo is already trimming toward the numbers it needs before the season starts.
