New England Patriots vs Green Bay Packers: six touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 5-3 test for Maye NFL

Drake Maye has played five teams with winning records this season. New England Patriots went 2-3 in those games, and he threw six touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Green Bay makes it six on Sunday 8 November, 4:25pm ET at Gillette Stadium. The Packers are 5-3 and have 10 interceptions, twice the Patriots’ total, and I think that’s the most useful fact in this preview.

New England is also 5-3 and 3-0 in the AFC East, and the Maye who’s beaten up lesser defenses has been very good. He’s thrown at least three touchdowns in five straight games, the second-longest run in franchise history, with seven scores of 30-plus yards in the last four.

Foxborough will have a lot going on around the game. Rob Gronkowski goes into the Patriots Hall of Fame this weekend, and Tom Brady is back in the building on the Fox broadcast.

The Patriots are 2.5-point favorites, moneyline 1.66, with Green Bay at 2.28 and a total of 46.5. The Packers +2.5 pays 1.98 at the best price we found.

New England Patriots: a turnover margin of minus seven behind the touchdown streak New England Patriots

New England’s turnover differential is minus-7. Green Bay’s is plus-4. That 11-turnover gap covers two teams with identical records, and it’s why I’m not sold on the home team here.

Last week they trailed Miami 13-3 at halftime before Maye led three straight touchdown drives and the Patriots won 24-19. Those 21 straight points came against the worst pass defense in the league.

The offense ranks eighth with 367.3 yards a game and sixth in EPA per play, and Maye has 1,983 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions at a 67.1% completion rate. A healthy group of receivers would make him harder to bet against.

A.J. Brown has ankle and knee issues and is questionable, Hunter Henry has a foot injury and TreVeyon Henderson has been ill, and both of them carry the same tag. Mack Hollins is on injured reserve, and Romeo Doubs was dealing with a shoulder problem after Week 8.

Up front, Alijah Vera Tucker and Mike Onwenu were also banged up against Miami. The defense sits 16th in EPA per play, and New England has failed to cover in its last three games, though the Over has hit in five straight.

The Patriots are 4-4 against the spread this season and 2-2 when favored by three or more, so this hasn’t been a team that pulls away. Early forecasts call for sunshine, temperatures in the low 60s and a wind around 5 mph at Gillette, which gives neither quarterback an excuse, and Gronkowski’s Hall of Fame weekend won’t move the line.

Green Bay Packers: ten interceptions, six sacks in Week 8 and no Micah Parsons Green Bay Packers

Green Bay sacked Bryce Young six times on 29 October and beat Carolina 27-19. That was a Thursday game, so the Packers arrive at Gillette after 10 days between games.

They’ve done this without Micah Parsons, who’s still on the PUP list. The Packers are tied for sixth with 22 sacks, level with New England, and rank seventh in defensive EPA per play, nine spots ahead of the Patriots.

Jordan Love was 30 of 41 for 288 yards, three touchdowns and an interception against Carolina. He has 2,246 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions on the year, and he’s averaging 280.8 yards a game without much help from the backfield.

MarShawn Lloyd has 149 yards on 57 carries, 2.6 a rush, and guard Sean Rhyan and tackle Travis Glover are both questionable. The Patriots also tied for sixth in sacks, so Love could have a busy afternoon behind a thin line.

Christian Watson caught eight passes for 113 yards against Carolina and did it with a broken rib. He’s questionable, along with linebacker Zaire Franklin. Green Bay has covered five straight, and the Under has hit in all five of those games, which is the opposite of New England’s run. They’re still only fourth in the NFC North behind Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit.

Green Bay gains 331.6 yards a game, 18th in the league, and holds the ball for 28:40, about two minutes less than New England. That hasn’t mattered much, because the Packers don’t give it away. Six interceptions from Love in eight games, against eight from Maye, is the short version of the plus-4.

Free NFL Prediction: New England Patriots vs Green Bay Packers

Our prediction: Green Bay Packers +2.5 (1.98)

I’d take the points. Maye’s numbers against winning teams, a defense with 10 interceptions and an 11-turnover gap all point the same way, and Green Bay also comes in with the extra rest.

Gillette is a real edge, and the five-game touchdown streak isn’t nothing. Love’s protection is the risk in this pick, because the Patriots can rush and Green Bay can’t run. If Brown and Henry both play at full speed, this line would look a little light.

The two teams look like a coin flip, and a coin flip with a field goal of cushion is the bet I want. One Maye interception in the wrong place is likely worth more than the 2.5 points on offer.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
