170 yards on four punts
Jason Wonodi did not wait for the Battle of the Bay to settle itself. Norfolk State’s returner took one punt 37 yards into Hampton territory to set up the opening touchdown, broke a 76-yard return for the lead midway through the second quarter, then added a 57-yard score in the fourth. Norfolk State won 42-21.
The redshirt senior finished with 170 punt return yards at an average of 56.7, both school records for a single game, and threw in an 18-yard kickoff return for good measure. Stats Perform named him FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Stony Brook end an 11-game streak
The National Team of the Week award went to Stony Brook, who beat then-No. 8 Rhode Island 56-24 for their first top-10 win since 2019 and ended an 11-game CAA winning run for the visitors.
CJ Hester scored four rushing touchdowns and Jeremiah Coney three more as the Seawolves piled up 321 rushing yards. Quarterback Quinn Boyd contributed a career-high 155 of them. Linebacker Lance Byndon added eight tackles with three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks for Billy Cosh’s side, now 2-2 and unbeaten in conference play.
A career day in Brookings and a debut in Philadelphia
Josiah Johnson took the offensive award after tripling his previous career best with 239 rushing yards in South Dakota State’s 27-20 win over Youngstown State. The sophomore carried 30 times, 12 of those going for first downs, and scored from four and 16 yards.
Elon linebacker Brodie Carroll claimed the defensive honour with 16 tackles, 11 of them solo, plus a sack and two pass breakups in a 24-21 win at Sacred Heart. No Phoenix player had made that many stops in a game since 2021, and three of them came on Sacred Heart’s final drive.
The freshman award went to Miles Teodecki, who had never played a college snap before Penn’s opener at Bucknell. He completed 18 of 34 passes for 197 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, ran 13 times for 87 yards and scored from a yard out in a 20-7 win that opened the Rick Santos era and Penn’s 150th season.
Fordham, Southeastern Louisiana and St. Thomas picked up honourable mentions for the team award. The Stats Perform honours run every week of the regular season and feed into the season-ending awards, now in their 40th year.
