Ninety minutes of lightning changed nothing
North Carolina State led Richmond 28-0 with 11:33 left in the second quarter when the storm arrived in Raleigh. The teams waited out roughly 90 minutes. The Wolfpack then scored three more times before the interval, walked in at 49-0 and finished the night 73-0.
Officials scrapped the halftime break and cut the fourth quarter to 10 minutes once play resumed. Even shortened, the game returned a total-offence line of 481-85 at the break, and Richmond ended the evening on 110 yards.
Two weeks earlier the Wolfpack had opened their season with a 34-8 defeat at Virginia. They are 1-1. Richmond, beaten for the first time this year, drop to 2-1.

Duke Scott needed one quarter
Scott ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and 115 of those yards arrived inside the opening quarter. Davion Gause had already opened the scoring with a 19-yard run 3:39 in. On the first snap of NC State’s second possession Scott sprinted clear for 65 yards, and the hosts were 14-0 up before the game was five minutes old. A 13-play, 86-yard drive followed, Scott finishing it from seven yards.
CJ Bailey went 13-for-17 for 281 yards with a touchdown pass and added a one-yard run of his own in the second quarter. Will Wilson scored twice from a yard out in the first half, added a five-yard run in the third and then threw a three-yard touchdown pass later in the same quarter.
Richmond never held the ball
Ashten Snelsire completed eight of 23 passes for 76 yards with an interception. The Spiders set up a trick play on the second snap of the second quarter and fumbled it to Ty White at their own 42. After the weather break, Jackson Vick intercepted and Wilson scored two minutes later. A three-and-out followed, and Bailey found Preston Douglas from 15 yards.
That drive began with a Scott 50-yard touchdown run wiped out by a penalty, then a 43-yard Bailey throw to Douglas. Richmond spent the night watching the scoreboard move on drives they had barely contested.
