NBA: Nets finally win, grinding out 98-90 at shorthanded Pacers

A week after the humbling

Brooklyn lost at home to this same Pacers team a week ago. On Sunday the Nets got their answer, and with it their first win of the season, 98-90 in Indianapolis in front of a sellout 17,274 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Indiana was shorthanded, and Brooklyn made the most of it with defense and persistence rather than flash. Michael Porter Jr. led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds. Julius Randle added 20 points, six assists and five boards, and finished plus-17.

Sharpe makes the difference inside

Day’Ron Sharpe supplied the interior work. He posted 15 points and 13 rebounds, both season highs, for the 20th double-double of his career.

For a team that had gone winless since opening night, the result changes the tone of the early schedule. It also came as a rematch, which gave Brooklyn the chance to answer one specific defeat rather than a vague slump.
