Two seasons for Gregory Poirier
FC Nantes confirmed its new head coach this afternoon. Gregory Poirier, 44, has signed on for the next two seasons and replaces Michel Der Zakarian, whose departure was announced by the club in the same statement.
“FC Nantes announces the end of Michel Der Zakarian’s spell in charge of the first team. He is replaced by Gregory Poirier, who has agreed terms with the Yellow and Green for the next two seasons,” the Nantes hierarchy said. The move had been doing the rounds since Monday night.

Three games, three defeats
The backdrop is grim. Nantes have lost their first three Ligue 2 matches and sit bottom of the table with zero points. Their latest outing, their first home game of the season, ended in a 2-5 hammering by Rodez.
Der Zakarian, 63, had only just started his third spell in the Nantes dugout. Three separate stints at the same club, and this one is over before the first month of the season is done. A coach coming back from Saint-Ouen
Poirier is back in a dugout just two months after his time at Red Star ended. He took over the Paris-area club in June 2024, after spells with US Marseille Endoume Catalans and Martigues. It is a career built from the bottom up, with no shortcuts, at clubs where the budget never keeps pace with the ambition.
At Nantes, the job is clear and thankless: drag the team off the bottom before the gap becomes a season-long burden. Poirier inherits a squad short on confidence and a transfer window that is still open.
