Ligue 1: Nagida announces himself against PSG

The nutmeg that lifted Roazhon Park

One move had the whole ground up.

Second half. Mahamadou Nagida collects the ball in his channel with Desire Doue in front of him. Nutmeg, then he kept driving and had a go himself. Twenty-one years old, opening day of Ligue 1, against the French champions, and not a trace of nerves.

Starting at left-back, the young Rennes defender picked up a 6.5 from the Foot Mercato team, one of the better Breton marks on the night.

Available, aggressive, always pointing forward

Paris Saint-Germain came to set the tempo. Nagida gave them nothing. He showed for the ball down his side, went hard into contact and burst forward whenever there was grass in front of him. Rennes held that left flank for ninety minutes.

He created too. On one sequence he started the move himself in midfield before linking with Esteban Lepaul. Defenders trying to survive a game do not do that.

Franck Haise took him off in the 78th, with Rennes 2-1 up.

Now he has to do it thirty more times

The finish went the other way. Ferran Torres scored twice and Paris left with a 2-2. Stade Rennais have plenty to be annoyed about.

Nagida walks away with something else entirely: a statement performance against the hardest opponent in the division, on day one, under a coach in Franck Haise who has a real record of developing young players.

The hard part starts now. Doing it every week is where the noise usually begins.
