Tennis: Monfils officially listed as retired by the ITIA

The ITIA confirms his retirement listing

Gaël Monfils has been officially retired from the professional tour since 5 October. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed it to AFP on Wednesday. The Frenchman had not spoken publicly by early morning.

The reasons for the listing are not detailed at this stage. In any case, it takes the former world No. 6 out of the game for some time.

A career ending still to be written

Monfils played his last official match in early September, in the second round of the US Open. He had since received an invitation to the Lyon ATP 250, scheduled for 19 to 25 October, and had hinted he hoped to finish his career at the Paris Masters 1000, from 2 to 8 November.

Both events now look out of reach. His entry on the ITIA’s list of retired players removes his right to compete in tournaments for a minimum of six months.
