Cam Schlittler blows away the American League field
If the National League race is still up for grabs, the MLB American League has a clear boss. New York Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler picked up 31 of the 36 first-place votes. The young flamethrower is tormenting MLB hitters with a near one-dimensional mix, leaning on fastballs 90.8% of the time, and it has carried him to the league’s best ERA at 1.50, plus an elite 0.86 WHIP.
Behind the untouchable Yankees leader, Dylan Cease is in second for the Toronto Blue Jays, despite a recent hamstring injury that should not keep him out for long. The electric Jose Soriano of the Angels is third after a historic start, just ahead of Davis Martin, the White Sox breakout who has taken MLB by surprise with 7 wins. Rounding out the American League top five is Cleveland Guardians lefty Gavin Williams, who was brilliant in his last outing with 11 strikeouts against the Phillies. The autumn awards race is officially on in MLB.
