Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers: two absences have swung the market 
This is the biggest line move of the opening weekend. Two missing pieces explain the shift: Josh Jacobs and Micah Parsons are both expected to sit for GB against Minnesota.
On paper, though, the 2025 records are almost identical: 9-7-1 for the Packers, 9-8 for the Vikings.
The difference comes down to how they finished. Minnesota ended the season with five straight wins. Green Bay never found that same surge.
Playing indoors also takes weather out of the equation, and that can matter a lot in Green Bay late in the year. Both offences will operate in clean, steady conditions.
Then there is the weekend’s biggest wildcard: Kyler Murray is set for his first regular-season game in his new colours.
So the market has picked between two uncertainties: an away team missing key bodies, and a quarterback still getting up to speed at home. It has sided with the latter.
A division clash between two evenly matched teams, decided more by who is available than by any real pecking order. That is exactly what the line says.

Jordan Love remains the hub of this offence and knows the system inside out. That familiarity is the Packers’ biggest edge against a defence that is changing shape itself.
Minnesota, in fact, is preparing for this game while still digesting major changes of its own. Green Bay can try to cash in on that defensive bedding-in period.
The issue is what sits around the quarterback. Josh Jacobs being out strips the Packers of their best way to keep a ground threat alive and stay on schedule.
Without any real running threat on early downs, the offence becomes far easier to defend. Minnesota can bring pressure without having to commit extra bodies to the run.
That pushes the offensive load onto Love and the passing game. It is not a disaster, but it does shrink the margin for error.
Micah Parsons missing may be even more damaging in this specific matchup. To contain a mobile quarterback, you need pressure and discipline in the rush lanes.
Take away a defence’s best pass rusher and you give Murray extra time to extend plays. That is where he does the most damage.
Green Bay also loses its cleanest way to punish a quarterback still learning the ropes. The defensive puzzle gets a lot harder.
The Packers are still a top-end team when they are whole. They are not whole on Sunday.

Minnesota Vikings: Kyler Murray’s debut, packed with upside but still a work in progress 
Minnesota made one of the headline moves of the offseason by bringing in Kyler Murray. The franchise has confirmed he will start against Green Bay.
J.J. McCarthy, who made ten starts last season, remains on the roster, with Carson Wentz also in reserve for Minnesota. The depth chart is now clear, which was not a given this summer.
Murray walks into a strong supporting cast. Justin Jefferson remains one of the league’s elite receivers, with Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings alongside him.
T.J. Hockenson is the starting tight end and gives Murray a reliable target in the middle of the field. That saves the new quarterback from having to rely only on the outside game.
The backfield also offers two complementary options in Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason. Kevin O’Connell has plenty of ways to keep his new signal-caller from carrying the whole load.
The concern is chemistry. Murray has had limited reps with this offence in the preseason. Timing with the receivers and protection adjustments usually take more than one proper game to settle.
That is the main reason not to overplay Minnesota’s paper edge. A better roster does not automatically turn into a smooth offence in Week 1.
Murray’s mobility does, though, become a real weapon with Parsons absent. A quarterback who can buy time will punish a coverage unit that has to hold up for too long.
Minnesota does not need a 300-yard passing day here. A few explosive plays, some solid work on the ground and Jefferson sucking in the defence should be enough in a game like this.

With the spread sitting at just 1.5 points, this is really just a bet on the Vikings winning at home. That feels a fair price for a team facing an opponent missing its starting running back and its best pass rusher.
Murray’s adjustment to O’Connell’s system is a genuine risk, but the surroundings go a long way to covering that. Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson give him instant answers from the opening drives.
Last season’s finish, five wins in a row, also points toward the home side. Green Bay comes in without the same momentum.
