Josh Lowe goes deep, and everything flips
Three hundred eighty-eight feet to deep right-center, sixth inning, Anaheim. Josh Lowe’s 12th homer of the year turned out to be the last run anybody scored Tuesday night. Angels 2, Mariners 1.
Ryan Johnson held things together for the California side. Six innings, one run allowed, six hits, seven strikeouts, no walks. He opened his night with 16 straight strikes and was done after 90 pitches, 67 of them for strikes. Ryan Watson shut the door in the ninth for his third save.
Los Angeles (58-93) picked up its first home series win since the Rangers came through in mid-August. Wade Meckler had two hits and scored a run. Vaughn Grissom delivered the RBI double that opened the scoring in the fifth.

Seattle drops into the red
For Seattle (70-82), this one hurts far beyond the scoreline. The Mariners can no longer finish the season with a winning record. Simple arithmetic.
It’s their first losing season since 2020, the shortened Covid campaign that ended 27-33. Go back to 2019 and a 68-94 finish for the last full one. Last year, Seattle reached the American League Championship Series. The fall has been brutal.
The franchise has now lost four of its last five. Dominic Canzone had sparked a brief comeback with a triple off the top of the center-field wall. Julio Rodriguez brought him home with a double into the left-center gap. Still not enough.
Gilbert joins Langston in the record book
Logan Gilbert (12-10) did little wrong. Two runs, six hits, six innings, two walks, seven strikeouts. The last one carried extra weight: the 1,078th of his career, moving him level with Mark Langston in fourth place on the Mariners’ all-time strikeout list.
The Angels are chasing a sweep on Wednesday. Seattle is playing for pride and individual numbers.
