A season-long loan from Napoli
FC Lorient have their new centre-back. The Breton club announced this afternoon that Nosa Obaretin has arrived. The 23-year-old Italian joins on loan for the season from Napoli, where his deal runs until June 2027.
The club’s statement landed just after 2pm. “Nosa Obaretin, the new defender for the city of six ports. Nosa Obaretin has arrived in our city. The defender is on loan for a season with Les Merlus and will strengthen our back line. Welcome to Lorient, Nosa,” the club said.
The loan does nothing to settle the long-term picture. Obaretin remains tied to Napoli for another season after his spell in Brittany. Lorient have taken a player they can assess, without taking on a heavy financial burden.

A full season in Serie B
Obaretin arrives with plenty of minutes under his belt. Loaned to Empoli last year, he made 30 appearances, 29 of them in Serie B, for a total of 2349 minutes. That’s a decent workload for a 23-year-old defender.
Born in Forli, he came through AC Milan’s academy before moving to Napoli. At the Italian champions, the traffic in the centre of defence never really gave him much room. This loan in Ligue 1 finally gives him a proper shot at this level.
Lorient keep moving
The Breton club are not done yet in the market. Twenty-four hours earlier, Lorient had already confirmed the arrival of Isak Jensen. Two signings in two days, with just a few days left before the window shuts.
On the pitch, Les Merlus opened their Ligue 1 campaign with a 0-0 draw against Nice last weekend. A point banked, a clean sheet kept, but no goals at the other end. Obaretin comes in to shore up the first part of that equation.
