Eleven minutes and it was done
Olivier Giroud is 39. He had only just come back from injury. He scored after 11 minutes.
Lille won the ball high up the pitch, Nabil Bentaleb picked out the pass, Giroud took it cleanly and drilled a low effort from outside the box. Anthony Lopes had no chance. Just like last season, the striker was off the mark on opening weekend.
LOSC won 2-0 on the battered Raymond-Kopa pitch. Tiago Santos made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, volleying in a second ball after a well-worked counter. Two goals, game over.

Carlo Ancelotti’s son makes a clean start
It was Davide Ancelotti’s first night in charge in Ligue 1. Carlo’s son was not handed the easiest team sheet to work with.
Ayyoub Bouaddi was missing, ruled out at the last minute as he heads towards a move to Manchester City after the clubs reached an agreement. Matias Fernandez-Pardo was suspended and on his way out. Two key men gone in a squad already being reshaped.
Ancelotti went with Giroud up top, with Ethan Mbappe among those backing him up. The call paid off within the hour.
Angers lacked the cutting edge
SCO were not embarrassed. Amine Sbai tried to drag them back into it, and they had their spells, plus a few decent openings after the second goal.
But they just could not finish, and Lille spent the closing stages looking to exploit the space left behind. For Angers, the warning is pretty clear: miss chances like that and the season could get ugly fast.
Lille, meanwhile, start with three points and a 39-year-old scorer who does not look in any rush to stop.
