Le Havre vs Brest: two sides still chasing a first win 
Le Havre and Brest head into round three with one point apiece on the board. Neither side has won in Ligue 1 this season.
Kick-off is set for Saturday September 5 at 8:45pm at Stade Oceane. The Normans sit 14th, while the Bretons are still unbeaten but without a victory to their name.
The fixture list has not been kind to Le Havre, who opened against Monaco and then Lyon. That draw helps explain a modest points return after two outings.
Brest, by contrast, faced Le Mans and Toulouse, two games that looked more manageable on paper, but still could not turn them into three points. Four goals conceded in two matches is the main concern for the Finistere side.
The recent head-to-head record leans strongly towards Brest, with three wins from the last four Ligue 1 meetings between the clubs. The latest, played on March 8, 2026 at Stade Francis-Le Ble, ended in a clear-cut 2-0.
The bookmakers do not see much between them, with 2.60 on a Le Havre win and 2.72 on Brest. That close call sums up the balance both teams have shown since the restart.
Even so, the two sides bring very different problems to Stade Oceane. One can defend but cannot score, the other can score but keeps leaking goals.
So the weekend question is simple: which one fixes its flaw first?

Le Havre began with a 1-0 defeat at Stade Oceane against Monaco. Monaco are the only Ligue 1 club yet to concede after two rounds, which puts that loss into some context.
The following week, the Normans led at Groupama Stadium before Lyon struck back late to force a 1-1 draw. Two points slipped away, but the display showed Didier Digard’s group can stand up to stronger opposition.
Samatta scored Le Havre’s goal in Lyon and remains the team’s main attacking reference. The Tanzanian striker should again lead the line on Saturday.
The attacking output is still painfully thin, though, with just one goal in two matches. Against a Brest defence that has looked shaky, this is the area Le Havre must get moving.
The injury list in Normandy is unusually short for this stage of the season. Only centre-back Zagadou and winger Mambimbi are out.
Centre-back Touba, on loan from Panathinaikos, and midfielder Richardson, loaned from Fiorentina, started in Lyon. Their instant integration has added a bit of substance to a squad that has been heavily rebuilt.
Pre-season in Normandy ended with a balanced return of seven goals scored and six conceded in five friendlies. A 1-1 draw with Laval and a 2-1 win over Red Star wrapped up the programme.
The club also brought in young forward Rayan Fofana, on loan from Lens, while Doucoure and Zouaoui left Normandy this week. So the squad is still very much under construction as Brest come to town.

Brest: unbeaten, but already four goals down 
Brest took a point at Le Mans in a 2-2 draw, then another at home to Toulouse in the same scoreline. The leveller against Toulouse arrived in stoppage time, which tells you how fragile that unbeaten run really is.
The four goals conceded across two games leave Brest among the most exposed defences in the division. Julien Lachuer, in his first season in charge in Finistere, has not found the right balance yet.
Pre-season had already flashed warning signs, with just one win in six matches. A 3-3 draw with Guingamp and a 2-2 with Venezia laid bare the problem.
Across Brest’s last five warm-up games, they scored eight and conceded nine, including two against Nottingham Forest on August 16. The goals are there. The steel is not.
Captain Chardonnet, the centre-back, is still injured, which has opened the door for former Le Havre man Lloris to start last week. Left-back Bourgault remains a doubt.
Up front, Ajorque equalised against Toulouse and remains the key attacking figure after Del Castillo left for Osasuna. N’Guessan, on loan from Liverpool, is not guaranteed to be registered in time for a debut.
Brest’s main trait is clear: they score in every game, whoever is in front of them. That is exactly what Le Havre have not managed since the season began.

Brest have won three of their last four Ligue 1 meetings with Le Havre, including a solid 2-0 in March at Stade Francis-Le Ble. That edge is no accident against a Normandy side that keeps failing to finish chances.
Le Havre have scored only once in two matches and have just lost two attacking figures, Doucoure and Zouaoui, in the final hours of the transfer window. Brest, meanwhile, have found the net four times over the same span.
Brest do concede, that much is clear, but they always score too, and that is exactly what Le Havre are missing if they want to hold onto a result. The call is a Brest win at Stade Oceane.
