Konyaspor vs Galatasaray: a February shock in Konya, and the same tight turnaround for the leaders Süper Lig

Konyaspor beat Galatasaray 2-0 in Konya on 21 February. Adil Demirbağ and Kramer scored, it was İlhan Palut’s first win as Konyaspor coach, and Okan Buruk had changed his side after a Champions League win over Juventus.

Eight months on, the calendar looks similar. Galatasaray beat Fenerbahçe 2-1 on Monday night, travel to Konya on Friday 30 October, kick-off 17:00 UK time (20:00 in Turkey), and host Stuttgart in the Champions League on Tuesday 3 November.

They arrive as leaders. Seven wins, one draw and one defeat from nine games give Galatasaray 22 points, two clear of Amed Sportif, and Victor Osimhen has eight league goals after scoring twice in the derby.

Konyaspor are 14th with eight points, level with Gaziantep and Gençlerbirliği. Sunday’s 2-0 win over Gençlerbirliği ended a three-game run without a win, and it left them four points clear of the bottom two.

Bookmakers have Galatasaray at 1.57, a longer price than a league leader usually carries against a side in the bottom half. The reasons are the schedule and the aftermath of Monday’s derby, which ended in a brawl after the final whistle.

Konyaspor: three clean sheets, but no goals in five of nine Konyaspor

Palut’s side keep games tight. They’ve kept three clean sheets in nine league games and drawn 0-0 with both Kasımpaşa and Başakşehir, which is why five defeats have only left them with a goal difference of minus three.

The trouble is at the other end. Konyaspor have failed to score in five of their nine league matches, and their top league scorer is Awaziem, a defender, with two goals.

Both of those came on Sunday. Awaziem scored on 43 and 56 minutes against Gençlerbirliği, Deniz Türüç set up the first, and goalkeeper Bahadır saved a Tongya penalty around the 75th minute to protect the clean sheet.

Palut has named the same XI for three games running: Bahadır; Yhoan, Baniya, Awaziem, Masuaku; Marko, Melih, Deniz Türüç, Bardhi, Dompe; Muleka. No fresh injury news has come out of the club, so I’d expect that side again on Friday.

Their home record against Galatasaray is better than the overall head-to-head suggests. Since 2019 the sides have met eight times in Konya, with four Konyaspor wins, one draw and three Galatasaray wins, and the goals split 12-12.

That record cuts both ways. Galatasaray won 5-1 here in the Turkish Cup in April 2025, 2-1 in August 2024 and 3-1 in May 2024, and over 31 meetings in all competitions Konyaspor have won only four.

Galatasaray: Osimhen in form, the back line under strain Galatasaray

Osimhen scored on 29 and 44 minutes against Fenerbahçe, the second with a header, and İrfan Can Kahveci’s overhead kick on 62 minutes was the only reply. It took his league tally to eight goals and three assists.

The support has come from midfield. Sara has two goals and two assists, Batrakov has set up two, and Yunus Akgün scored inside two minutes of the 4-2 win at Lille in the Champions League on 21 October.

Monday’s game ended badly, though. Reports say Abdülkerim Bardakcı and Fenerbahçe’s Archie Brown were shown red cards after the final whistle following a brawl, but no disciplinary ruling had been published at the time of writing. Bardakcı has two league goals from centre-back and started the derby next to Sanchez.

Rafael Leão is the other doubt. He missed the win at Lille with a groin strain and only came on late against Fenerbahçe, so a start in Konya three days later is far from certain.

Galatasaray have given goals away all autumn. They’ve conceded 12 league goals in nine games, and in the Champions League they let in four against Barcelona, three at Sporting and two at Lille.

Their league form is still the best in Turkey. Before the derby they won 4-0 at Trabzonspor, 3-1 at home to Kasımpaşa and 1-0 at Gençlerbirliği, where Deniz Gül scored the winner on 88 minutes.

Probable lineup Konyaspor: Bahadır; Yhoan, Baniya, Awaziem, Masuaku; Marko, Melih, Deniz Türüç, Bardhi, Dompe; Muleka
Probable lineup Galatasaray: Not announced at time of publication

Free Football Prediction: Konyaspor vs Galatasaray

Our prediction: Galatasaray to win (1.57)

I’d take Galatasaray at 1.57. Konyaspor haven’t scored in five of their nine league games, and a team relying on a defender for its goals will find it hard to score twice against a side with Osimhen in this form.

The February defeat here is the obvious warning, and Buruk faces a similar choice with Stuttgart four days later. This time Galatasaray are protecting a two-point lead, and they’ve won their last two league away games, 4-0 at Trabzonspor and 1-0 at Gençlerbirliği.

A possible ban for Bardakcı and the doubt over Leão weaken the side, but Galatasaray have scored three or more in three of their last six games in all competitions. Konyaspor’s defence has been organised all season, and I still expect it to give way at least once.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
