Knights vs Roosters: a huge clash in the race for the Top 4 
Round 21 in the NRL rolls on Friday night with one of the standout fixtures of the weekend. At McDonald Jones Stadium, the Knights host the Roosters in a showdown that could have a major say in the finals race.
Newcastle come in off two frustrating defeats that have stalled their momentum a touch, while Sydney are building at exactly the right time of year. Both teams have serious attacking firepower and both arrive under real ladder pressure.
In such a tight competition, one slip can have serious consequences with the run-in looming.
The Knights have to turn promise into points 
Despite their narrow loss to the Sharks, the Knights proved they can now go toe-to-toe with the best sides in the competition. The trip to Cronulla was not enough to bring back the win, but it underlined their attacking quality once again.
Kalyn Ponga is still the main threat, obviously. Every time he hits top gear, the Newcastle captain can flip a game on its head. Beside him, Dylan Brown keeps adding creativity to the attack, while Fletcher Sharpe is growing fast into the role of secondary playmaker.
The outside men also give them plenty to work with, with Greg Marzhew, Bradman Best and Dominic Young all capable of using power and pace to hurt teams out wide. The absence of Dane Gagai, though, is a real blow. His experience, his yardage carries and his defensive leadership will all be missed in a game this big.
The main issue remains defence. Newcastle are still coughing up too many points against the top sides and cannot afford to chase the game for 80 minutes against a team as seasoned as the Roosters.

Sydney head into this one with several key returns, starting with James Tedesco. The captain changes the look of the Roosters straight away with his constant involvement, his support play and his influence on both sides of the ball.
With Daly Cherry-Evans, Sam Walker and Reece Robson at the heart of the side, the Roosters probably boast one of the most complete spine units in the competition. Their kicking game and their ability to pin opponents back are among their biggest strengths.
Up front, Lindsay Collins, Spencer Leniu, Victor Radley and Naufahu Whyte bring enough muscle to match Newcastle physically. Robert Toia is back as well, adding more steel to an already strong backline.
When Sydney stay patient and stick to their structure, very few teams drag them away from their gameplan. The Roosters will just need to avoid a track meet, because that would play straight into Newcastle’s hands.
A battle that could come down to the fine margins
The Knights will have the crowd behind them and enough talent to make any opponent nervous. But against a side as experienced as Sydney, every mistake risks being punished immediately.
Right now the Roosters look a touch more trustworthy, especially with their senior men back and a better handle on the rough patches in games. Their ability to control territory and dictate tempo could end up being decisive in the final quarter.

Newcastle have enough weapons to stay in touch through Kalyn Ponga and their backline, but the defensive cracks seen against other Top 8 challengers are a concern. Against a side as well drilled as the Roosters, that could end up costing them.
Recent history also leans heavily towards Sydney, who have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the clubs. In a game that should be close, the visitors look slightly better equipped to land the telling blows when it matters.
