Knicks vs Spurs – Game 3 NBA Finals Prediction

Knicks vs Spurs (Game 3): New York can land a massive blow, San Antonio are already fighting for their lives NBA logo et symbole, sens, histoire, PNG, marque

For days, everything seemed to point to Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs had cruised through the regular season with all the swagger of future champions, brushed aside the Thunder after an epic series and arrived in the Finals carrying the near-unanimous tag of favourites.

Two games later, the picture has changed completely. The Knicks are now in control of this NBA Finals. Two wins in Texas. Thirteen straight playoff victories. Confidence spilling out of every possession. And, most importantly, a huge chance to put both hands on the Larry O’Brien Trophy when they finally return to a Madison Square Garden that has been waiting for this moment.

History tells the story: once a team goes 2-0 up by winning the first two games on the road, the margin for error for the other side all but disappears. For San Antonio, Game 3 already looks like a must-win.

The Knicks are not running away with this series because they are more talented. They are ahead because they keep finding answers when the game turns ugly. Game 1 was a thriller. Down by 14, Mike Brown’s men flipped it with suffocating defence and a one-sided fourth quarter. Game 2 told a different story. This time, New York controlled things for long stretches before holding off a desperate Spurs comeback in the closing minutes. Two games, two different scripts, two wins.

That is probably the most striking part of this New York run. The Knicks can win when Brunson is cooking. They can also survive when he hits a rough patch. They can drag the game into the mud, defend hard and win while giving up just 95 points. Or they can push the tempo and trade baskets. Their depth is becoming one of the biggest factors in this Finals. In Game 2, a spell without Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns on the floor could have hurt them badly. Instead, Bridges, Shamet and the bench kept producing offence, proof that this team has more than one star to lean on.

And now New York heads home. Madison Square Garden has not hosted an NBA Finals game with this much buzz in ages. The whole city is waiting. So are the fans. In this atmosphere, the Knicks have a chance to open up a near-unassailable lead in the series.

What must be most frustrating for the Spurs is that they have never really been far away. Even at 0-2 down, San Antonio led in both games. In Game 2, they even went up by 14 before New York dragged themselves back in once again.

The problem is that the Spurs look like they need to play near-perfect basketball for 48 minutes just to stay in touch. Every dip in intensity, every defensive mistake, every turnover gets punished right away. Another concern is the physical state of the roster. Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox both left Game 2 banged up, trimming Mitch Johnson’s options even further. In a series where every possession matters, losing two major creators could become impossible to hide.

That leaves Victor Wembanyama. As so often when the Spurs are cornered, all eyes turn to their French phenom. The numbers say plenty. 26 points in Game 1. 29 in Game 2. Despite double teams, despite New York’s physical defence and despite the tactical adjustments, Wembanyama keeps producing. Even more telling, his history against the Knicks reads like a player who loves this matchup: 40 points in March 2024. 42 points at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day 2024. 31 points last December. 25 points in the latest regular-season meeting. And now back-to-back games above 25 points in this Finals. San Antonio will need an even more aggressive version of their star if they want to get back into the series.

NBA Prediction: Knicks vs Spurs

Jalen Brunson and Victor Wembanyama: both players to score 25 points or more

The energy at Madison Square Garden should lift the New York Knicks, but the urgency of the situation means the Spurs need a huge response too. On that basis, a one-sided game is hard to picture.

On one side, Jalen Brunson is building one of the biggest recent playoff runs in Knicks history. The guard is averaging 26.6 points since the postseason began and takes it up another level at Madison Square Garden, where he is scoring more than 28 per game. Across his last seven outings, he has gone over 25 points six times. Most importantly, he remains the player who handles the biggest moments best in this series. When possessions get heavy, he is usually the one making the calls.

Opposite him, Wembanyama is the last line of Texan resistance. The Frenchman has carried the Spurs offence over the past two games and looks set for close to 40 minutes in Game 3. If San Antonio are going to claw their way back into this Finals, it has to start with a huge performance from their franchise player. He has already topped 25 points in both of the first two games against the Knicks and has a particularly nasty record against this defence (14, 40, 42, 31 and 25 points in the regular season).

Before anything else, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We give an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no bet without risk. Even when something looks obvious, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
  • The smart move is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all: do not chase losses, because that usually ends badly.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your daily life, making you angry or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support service. That is what it is there for.
  • In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and never goes away, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money problems, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. Put simply: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet fails.

Information can change

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly become outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your role
