Four extensions put on hold
The New York Knicks announced on Friday that they are holding off on contract extension talks until later in the season. The pause covers All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns and guards Josh Hart, Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek, all of whom are eligible. The team has until June 30 to complete any of them.
A Knicks spokesman kept it short: “our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season.” Negotiations will resume later.

Towns saw it coming
Towns, 30, is owed $57 million this season and holds a $61.1 million player option for 2027-28. He is eligible for a four-year extension worth a maximum of $276 million.
He had already lowered expectations on Monday, saying he did not expect a deal before the season starts. “It don’t look good,” he said. He added that none of his goals for a deal, including keeping the team together and being valued fairly, “have come close to happening.”
A title as the backdrop
The timing sits awkwardly next to last season. The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals and ended a 53-year title drought. Towns averaged 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists in the playoffs.
With talks parked, the question moves into the season. The player option for 2027-28 stays on the table, and so does the June 30 deadline.
